  • How do these cookies work?

Boosters I use include oats, brewers yeast, flax, and lecithin. Oats boost milk supply because of the iron they contain which is essential to mom when nursing. Oats are also a great source of fiber and can be filling. Brewer’s yeast is another good booster. It is a natural source of B vitamins essential to overall health of a nursing mom. In addition, the B vitamins will help give you energy. Flax seed is power packed with omega-3 which is important in the rapidly growing brain of the baby. It is also a great form of fiber.Lecithin changes the viscosity of the milk which helps it get released from the breast which helps speed up let-down. One mom who ate my cookie said that it usually takes her an hour to feed her baby but after the cookie with lecithin was able to feed in just 20 minutes. For the moms who pump it can help cut down the time you pump because it doesn't take as long to get the milk out. If you have concerns about eating soy I can use sunflower lecithin upon request and for an additional charge.

  • I heard that you are not supposed to eat cookie dough while nursing. Are you sure that I can eat the dough as it is?

The reason that I sell the dough is that some of the ingredients lose some potency through the baking process so by eating it as dough you will get a bigger boost. My dough is safe to eat because there is no egg used. However, if you want to bake the dough it will work as well (350, 10-12 min).

  • Are these ingredients safe to eat while nursing?

I am not a medical doctor nor claim to be. The boosters I use are not evaluated by the FDA and their effectiveness has been suggested by many nursing moms and not the medical community. It is up to you to talk to your doctor to see if the above boosters are safe for you to eat. Like everything you eat it is hard to determine how it will impact your baby. A few babies have sensitivity to the brewers yeast in that it gives them gas while others it does not bother at all.

  • How soon will I see a result?

Most moms notice an increase within hours of eating only two cookies. Others it might take 4 cookies and a 3-4 days to notice a change.

  • When should I eat them?

If you are pumping eat one 45 min to an hour before a pumping session. If you are nursing most women’s supply is lowest at night so an afternoon and bedtime snack are best.

  • Why do you cookies cost so much? Can't I just make them at home?

Absolutely you could make your own lactation cookies but as a nursing mom, especially if you are working and have other kids, who has the time? In addition, I use higher quality ingredients that are gluten free and non-GMO which cost more than those typically found in your pantry or mall bakery. Many moms who have made their own at home tell me that mine taste and work way better then the ones they made at home which I take as a huge compliment coming from another home baker.

  • Why are all the cookies gluten free?

They are gluten free because the ingredients I use work better compared to using white flour.

  • I have bought cookies from you before and they were cheaper. What happened?

I have changed the type of brewer’s yeast I use to a higher quality brand and increased the amount in each batch by 1/3. Plus I added lecithin to each batch which will help your milk flow out faster. Lastly, the cookies are bigger. Each roll of cookie dough is over a pound. If you want a sample before you buy send a message and I can see what I can arrange.

  • I am concerned about calories.  How bad are these cookies for me?

I have improved the recipe so it has half the fat than the old recipe. One serving of oatmeal chocolate chip (2 cookies – 3 TBS of dough each): 207 calories, 11 grams fat, 28 gram Carbs, 4 grams Fiber, 7 grams Protein.

  • What happens if my partner or children eat one of my cookies?

Besides making dad’s freak out that they are going to start lactating and providing you with a good laugh nothing will happen. Even if you have nursed a baby before it will not bring your milk back from nothing. They are actually quite healthy for anyone to eat.

  • What if I have food allergies?

Everything is gluten free but if you have allergies please let me know. I do offer dairy free, egg free, soy free, and nut free cookies. However, all my baking is prepared in a kitchen that prepares products with ingredients containing gluten, dairy, and nuts. Every effort is made to avoid cross-contamination. If you have a severe allergy to gluten, I recommend using caution, or not purchasing baked goods from me.
